Episode 4: The Widow Wobble
"Even when I wobble, I'm still making progress, one step at a time! β - Rebecca Ann
Introduction:
Ever wake up thinking, "I've totally got this today," only to be blindsided by a wave of grief that knocks you off your feed? Yep, that's what I like to call the Widow Wobble. One minute. you're cruising along, feeling somewhat normal, and then BAM! Grief pulls the rug out from under you, and suddenly you're wobbling like a toddler who just learned to walk. Trust me, you're not alone - it happens to all of us. And guess what? It's okay. In fact, it's more than okay - it's totally normal.
Episode 4: The Widow Wobble: It's a Thing
What is the Widow Wobble?
The widow wobble is that unpredictable moment when you think you've got a handle on things, and out of nowhere, grief hits. Maybe it's triggered by something small, like a song on the radio or a random memory. Suddenly, you're not as steady as you thought, and you find yourself wobbling emotionally, unsure whether to laugh, cry, or both. Sound familiar?
One time, I was in the grocery store, feeling pretty proud of myself for holding it together. Then, I walked past the fresh fruit and vegetable section, we used to joke that my hubby was the "fruit and veggie boy" because it was his first job at 15 and he knew how to pick the best......and before I knew it, I was ugly crying in front of the apples. I can't tell you how awkward it was trying to explain to the cashier why my bag of apples had me falling apart. The Widow Wobble, it sneaks up when you least expect it.
It's Normal to Wobble
Let's get one thing straight: experiencing the Widow Wobble does not mean you're weak. Quite the opposite, actually! You see, it's normal to wobble when you're navigating grief - it's part of the process. You're moving forward, but some days you hit a bump and lose your footing. That's okay because, even when you wobble, you're still standing.
I remember once finding a random old sock that belonged to my partner. And, of course, I lost it. Over a sock! But here's what I realized: the Widow Wobble doesn't define you. You're not crumbling; you're just feeling. And those feelings, no matter how messy or unexpected, are part of your healing.
Keep Moving Through the Wobble
The Widow Wobble isn't something to be ashamed of. It's part of the widowhood journey. You're allowed to stumble, take a breather, and even cry it out if you need to. But here's the magic - every time you wobble and get back up, you're showing yourself how strong you truly are. Each time you find yourself on shaky ground but keep moving, that's progress, my friend.
So the next time you feel that wobble creeping in, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you're still standing. Wobbling doesn't mean you're falling - it just means you're learning to walk a new path.
