Why Questions Matter More Than Answers in Midlife
When I first found myself staring down a very empty future, I was desperate for answers.
I wanted a five-year plan. I wanted clarity. Heck, I would've settled for a cosmic sign on a Post-it note.
But what I really needed was to start asking better questions.
See, when your life changes suddenly - or even slowly and painfully - it's normal to feel lost. You don't need the whole staircase; you just need the next step. And often, that next step is asking yourself:
"What do I actually want now?"
And friend, that's where the magic begins.
✨The 3 Questions That Helped Me Redesign My Life
Here are the three simple but powerful questions I used to gently steer myself from feeling stuck and foggy.... to designing a life I'm actually excited to wake up to:
1. What do I want now?
Not what you wanted 5 years ago. Not what your partner wanted. Not what your friends think is best for you.
Ask yourself today: If there were no rules, what would I want for this next chapter?
Give yourself permission to say it out loud, even if it sounds messy or unrealistic. The goal isn't perfection - it's permission.
2. What do I need more of (and less of)?
This is where we get honest.
Maybe you need more rest and less rushing.
More connection, less isolation.
More green smoothies, less emotional Chardonnay (no judgement - we've all been there).
Your energy is precious. This question helps you protect it.
3. Who do I want to become?
This is my favourite one.
Grief and change can make us forget our own power.
But guess what? You get to rewrite your identity.
Do you want to be brave? Adventurous? Calm? Confident?
Start acting like her today. One mini habit at a time.
🧭What to Do With Your Answers
Here's the truth: you don't have to act on everything right away. These questions aren't about pressure. They're about opening the door to possibility.
Jot down your answers. Revisit them. Use them to guide small choices this week - what you say yes to, what you say no to, what you daydream about on our morning walk.
Because clarity creates momentum.... and momentum builds your Life 2.0.
